This paper (a summary of the longer ‘Do Participatory Development Project Help Villagers Manage Local Conflict?') outlines the methodology employed in the KDP and Community Conflict Negotiation study.  This study utilizes a mixed method approach to try to understand the specific forces that instigate or mitigate conflict in the complex setting that is Indonesia following the downfall of the New Order.  The paper then outlines an approach to determining how the impacts of the Kecamatan Development Project (KDP), a massive World Bank-financed community-driven development project, may be isolated.
