Indonesian Social Development Paper No.19

Local conflict characterizes many countries such as Indonesia, but research has tended to focus on large-scale, ‘headline' conflicts.  Combining qualitative and quantitative methods and using a unique village-level dataset, this study analyzes potential links between local conflict and poverty, inequality, shocks, ethnic and religious diversity and community-level associational and security arrangements.  A summary of the longer paper Local Conflict in Indonesia: Measuring Incidence and Identifying Patterns.
