The main function of the BRA is to implement the reintegration program of the Government of Indonesia (GoI) in accordance with the Helsinki Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). To this end, the BRA develops and oversees programs that provide assistance to former GAM combatants, former GAM non-combatants, former political prisoners, anti-separatist groups, and persons affected by the conflict.
To achieve the peaceful reintegration of ex-combatants and conflict victims, the BRA serves as the primary advisory body for the Governor of Aceh on issues related to the reintegration process and post-conflict recovery. It coordinates closely with government agencies and international institutions. Furthermore, the BRA undertakes internal monitoring and evaluation of its reintegration programs and coordinates the monitoring and evaluation efforts of reintegration programs conducted by outside institutions.
